Meet the Characters..
SURFER JOE: The organic super-hero. 15 years old, Joe has a high IQ, is mellow, soft-spoken, casual and comfortable in himself. He is optimistic, sometimes shy, a friendly loner with a sleeping giant heart & soul always on call. He is loyal to a fault. He wears surf trunks made of recycled plastic bottles and sea silk. He talks to nature through a groovy shell whistle he earned while being raised under the sea. He seeks a kinder path, a sweeter way. At times, he talks only to his dog in quiet introspect. He questions his innate, 'super human' Eco-saving abilities the Mermaid awakened in his heart. He kinda wishes it was all a dream. When his diverse challenges mount overwhelming, he all too commonly falls into a 'far away stare’...zoning back to his Tibetan orphanage origins. As an old chinese gong sounds, he recalls his Masters' proverb. He stares into the shining ocean 'zen master like' and says to himself:
Surfer Joe's Motto: "At times, even a good thing isn't as good as nothing."
SEEKOR, a green and brown eyed Jack Russell Terrier was given to Joe by his (now deceased) adopted philanthropist parents. A couple of dog years younger than Joe, he is the born conniver. He talks with his ears and has "The Showman" attitude...except (like every dog) when he needs his master.He can be seen at times wearing sandals and shades. Yup! Seekor loves sharing the surfboard with Joe. But when lil' Seek has to sit the waves out, he turns into 'Inspector Seekor'! Wandering off, sniffing around where he shouldn’t, he haphazardly stumbles into deep trouble with Earths environmental villains as they dump toxic swill in tribal waters or, using covert sonar that is beaches schools of baby sharks and dolphins. Lil' Seek noses out the dastardly! More then not, he tries to fill in for his small dog size by acting like the big shot. He likes the limelight a little too much. We all know "the limelight" has its own pitfalls, as Seekor inevitably finds out.
Seekor's Motto: "Food or fame, whichever comes first!"
DOOBIE-DOO: Half Jamaican, half Native American at 17 years old, Doobie is the oldest teen in Joe's posse. He speaks with a slight patois accent. He has the mellowest of style, truly grace in motion. Doob’s objective is to spread the spirit conscious of earth's balance & flow, and earn money at his mobile surf store “Da Shack”. His expert kung-fu fighting skills are used against the dastardly, as his insightful kung-fu wisdom shows others a possibly more subtle approach. His spring-loaded dreadlocks bounce even after he stops walking. He keeps losing his sunglasses and claims that wearing his kung fu clothes keeps him ready for da' action! He projects a centered calm aura that the rest of the characters feed off of, though they don't necessarily know why. His surfin' style is ‘Obe One Zen’.
Doob's Motto: "The mind should be as a mirror."
CHEDDAR: He is a slapstick patsy, born wisecracker, immature lazy 14 yr old cackler (He can’t control his laughter). He constantly falls off his board cackling hysterically. He is just a bumble-head that always is getting it wrong and is usually in the way. Stumble with no humble seems to lead poor cheddar into more trouble. When surfing, skateboarding, or snow boarding, he relishes cutting in front of others. Joe and the gang are always saving cheddar in someway. His parents own a catamaran charter boat company, but cheddar is always broke. He is so frustrated with his art, tagging has rendered him listless as he seeks a divergent way to express himself. He is constantly pulling up his over-sized clothing. As the posse's nemesis, he coaxes Joe's "just wanna surf" attitude. This detours Joe from fulfilling his vow to the mermaid and ultimately, to himself.
Cheddar's motto: "Cackle, cackle! huh? Cackle!”
POKI: An Asian-Latin-American that always reminds everybody she is 13 and a HALF! Smart but dingy with a girlish innocents, tempestuous too. She is constantly in quest of her own edge. Glued to her laptop, she is quick as a whip, but purposely holds back on it as she tries to measure up to 'da boyz'. She can be a bit bothersome playing the usual 'girl attitude' with Joe’s posse. She aspires to be helpful with Joe's adventures, pulling from her geek computer brains vast knowledge bank. This proves her significance to Joe. She wears surf trunks with a bikini top or her ever-changing ‘positive thoughts' t-shirt collection. She's a vegan eatin' politically correct Green-Peace-er woman’s libber earth goddess in training. Just starting to fall in love with surfing …and crushing on Joe, she must follow him and the gang everywhere they go. When frustrated by 'da boyz', she seeks solace at the oceans shore. Closing her eyes, listening to the sea birds and smelling the sea mist.
Poki's motto: "Give me my PC and five minutes, i'll have it figured out!"
BHODI: 40-ish and some what timeless. Surprisingly fluid in his old waltz, he is in good shape. Stubborn but trustworthy, he knows what it takes in life to get through it; Wit, grit and never giving in to 'The System'. Pushed over the edge of professional preverbal pitfalls, his oceanographer/(beginning student) Zen philosopher insights afford him a 'shoot from the hip' scientific, yet profound 'Bukowski bias”. Though at times not verbalized, it is written across his face. He is on a quest to save the dying oceans whilst finding his own utopia. His esoteric tastes in classic vinyl jazz albums that play on his old victoria turntable peeps his many evolving moods. He loves cruising in his old Woody Wagon. His faith in pure-thought keeps him busy with contemplation.
Bhodi's Motto: "The whole moon and the entire sky are reflected in one dewdrop on the grass."
MERMAID MELANIE: She is as old as the Sea, timeless in her heart. She communicates clairvoyantly. Her eyes don't blink, but glow incandescent. Her spirit is true enlightenment, inspiring, magical, mesmerizing. Her true name is Mhazuu, the goddess of the oceans. The name Melanie was given to her by Poseidon, who felt it more comfortable if humans were to encounter her. He sent her from their deep Sea home, commanding her only to return with 'The Remedy' to stop Earth's evil greedy industrialist from killing their oceans. Coming back with Joe and Seekor, She began to train them for mankind's needs. She toured and taught them the plight throughout her distant Seas. This was not without fun. They learned to surf in their travels, but not yet on a board, on the back of one of the mermaid's friendly dolphins. This was partly to humble Joe's innate abilities. When Joe got too cocky, Melanie would message the dolphins to toss him into the water. This taught Joe there is more to fun, than fun itself! Her magic allows her to watch Joe's progress from afar, scrutinizing his journey's choices as they either open or close before him. Life's humbling lessons enlighten Joe's natural progression.
Mermaid's Motto: “Earth's Oceans must be healed.”
